So much for altruism!

As I mentioned in yesterday's post on rejections, I was bound and determined to help someone else out in an attempt to get my mind out of my pathetic self-absorption.

To make a long story short, I followed through.

Well, sort of.

My attempts at helping someone else failed. I was rejected again!

But this time, I had to laugh. The person I tried to assist basically told me, "Thanks, but no thanks." Now THAT'S funny!

It honestly made my blues lift, even if I wasn't able to achieve my original goal.

That being said, I am still going to do something nice for someone, dammit! I just don't know when... but it'll be soon and I'll blog about the experience.

Geesh. Who knew altruism could be so much work?

Ummm... you wanna babysit?

I'm flying solo this week with my tiny ones. The hair is thinning, eyes are sagging.

Or you could send me chocolate.

If you could fly over here and help us out with all the renovation work...heeeheee.

Once I tried to help a friend, who, as I felt was, and in fact, still is, in a miserable state.
He rejected me. It was a shock. The fact itself and the way he did it.
So, I hear you.

Perpaps, you should help yourself instead of someone else... ?

One time, we had several feet of snow and I was driving along when I saw this old woman struggling to get her groceries across the snow to her door. I stopped and made my way through the snow and offered to help. Her response? "Well, why didn't you stop sooner. For heaven's sake, I could have frozen to death out here." And then to top it off, she wouldn't let me help her. I thought about knocking her down and grabbing her groceries, sprinting to the house and putting them away for her, but alas, I walked away with head bowed. Some people!

Well... I have to be honest. I don't "do" babysitting. I have a son, but just can't seem to open my heart to taking care of other kids. I'd be happy to send you "virtual chocolate" thoughts, though...

Szelsofa:

Well, helping someone else was supposed to be a way of helping myself... but whatever works, right? :)

Jason:

Glad you got a kick out of the comment. Dammit. Ha! I just think that word is so funny when spelled out.

Karen:

Your story had me laughing, especially when you mentioned wanting to knock her down and take the groceries! Who ARE these people? Don't they realize that we aren't maniacs? (Or not too maniacal.)

"I thought about knocking her down and grabbing her groceries, sprinting to the house and putting them away for her" well, Bob that is just appalling! I do however find the original post funny. I don't like babysitting either. Other kids are no where near as charming as my child.

Ha! Other people's kids... that's a subject for a blog post, isn't it?

I would not babysit other people's kids, either.
Mines give me enough headache- why take a second chance?
