Keeping promises

Well, I didn't get to become the seventh babe of "7 Babes a-Bloggin'", but that's okay. I appreciate all your support and it was fun to see how close I could get to the top spot.

(Okay, truth be told I really wanted to win and have been crying for days now, unable to console myself. In fact, I'm thinking of throwing my worthless wreck of a body under a bus.. oh! The cruelty of politics!)

In any case, I didn't forget my promise to all of you. I said I'd post a pic of me at the height of my adolescent awkwardness. And so I shall.

May I present to you the 1983 "me"? Try not to stare too long. Your eyes will fall out. (Oh, and close your mouths. Flies will congregate in there.)

Please take special note of the ill-fitting, too-skimpy shorts; the horizontal stripes (ah, nothing says flabby like white stripes across a lumpy belly); and the I-don't-care-hair. And that IS a legitimate Barbie doll I'm holding.

(P.S. The other person in the picture is and was my best friend, Sarah. But I wouldn't be so cruel as to include her photo on this site.)

You look cute. And you're a winner to your little fan club of voters.

And yes, you look nice here.

Looks like a normal 80s photo that we all have. I wouldn't be ashamed! :-)

I think you're way 7 babe material -- I hope you try again. Also, yikes. but I went through some crazy 80s outfits too so...You and your little are both adorable in that profile picture though so it looks like you made up for lost time :)

Okay, you guys are all WAYYYYY too nice! Say something at least a little snarky, please... I'm beginning to feel like I've been too hard on my 12-year-old self! :)

Sarah... Tess... any comments?!?

This is bizarre: you look a lot like me, but with glasses. I get to say that because I'm older than you; in 1983, I was no teenager.

Weird! I'm going back to look at your photo again. Yep -- same hair, same legs, same smile.

God, my hands are starting to sweat just at the thought of posting my high school shots. No, I can't. No, I'll never do it.

I think you cheated and posted a nicer-than-normal picture of yourself!

Mary: How bizarre! Could we be sisters, separated for all these years?!? :)

I showed your picture to my youngest, and asked her who you resembled. She said immediately "Auntie Dorothy" (my older sister), thinking of the shots she's seen of my sister from, say, 35 years ago. When I get more techno-savvy, I'll try and send you a photo so you can see for yourself!
