Do you understand "client speak"?

I have a client who doesn't speak my language.

Or I don't speak the client's language.

One or the other.

But it's not what you think.

See, we're both using English. And our sentence structure is similar. But for the life of me I'm totally confused by the way this person puts phrases together.

I can't quite explain it, but it would be akin to having someone say to you, "The blouse is on the stall of the modicum of horror." The words are legit, but the sentence is crazy.

How many times can I say, "Ummm... can you explain that again?" before I have to accept that I either need a translator or a new client?

I had to take some time to catch up on all the posts I missed. I don't do that with everyone. ;)

I'm glad you're developing a thicker skin. I recently had a conversation with a HS principal that left me so bewildered, well, it was bizarre to be kind.

Oh, and I love your new pic.

And, now, for the question part of my act. When you say clients, what are they hiring you for exactly? What are you writing?

I know exactly what you're talking about! There are some people you instinctively understand and can communicate with, whether or not you speak the same language as in French, Swahili, etc. There are others who seem to be from a different planet; even a shared grammar, lexicon, culture, etc, is not enough.

If possible, you should ask around about the client you can't communicate with: others may have the same problem with him/her.

OMG!! "Dentures of Doom!" That is perfect!
I hated that movie. Was very disappointed.
